  • Due the physically demanding nature of the position, candidates will be required to undergo fitness testing as a condition of employment

  • GENERAL PURPOSE:

    Ensuring safety is a priority, operators work in a team environment to build an maintain railways in numerous locations across Canada by operating one or more specific machine such as a tamper, regulator, spiker, speed swing, extractor, plate jack or other on the railway track as per the operators manual.  Operators must also ensure compliance with all governed regulations such as DOT.  Daily inspections and minor repairs are also completed.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public and the assets of the company and following policies and procedures set out by the company
  • Operate one or more specific machines such as but not limited to; tamper, regulator, spiker, speed swing, kribber, extractor, plate jack or other on railway track as per the operator manual
  • Daily walk around inspection if machine, general housekeeping of machine and minor repairs to machine when necessary to ensure safe operation 
  • Daily administration of log books, job briefings etc. mandated by law ensuring compliance with governed regulations of transportation such as DOT logs when applicable
  • Compliance to track rules and instructions according to CROR 
  • Assist with manual labour when necessary
  • Communicate effectively over radio following CTC standards
  • Meet productivity level requirements set out by supervisors/foremen 
     

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
    Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
    Effective communication skills including listening, writing and speaking
    Good client service and public interaction skills 
    Ability to work independently and in a  team environment 
    Self motivation
    Good hand and eye coordination
     

    REQUIREMENTS
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Minimum 6 months experience on working on railway or construction industry is required
    Previous machine operator experience is an asset
    Full Class G driver’s license required
    Basic hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers
    Basic mechanical aptitude required 
    BMO training required
    Clear criminal record preferred 
    Clean drivers abstract preferred
    Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs unassisted
