Child & Family Counselor

We believe mental & emotional health is an important part of overall health and wellness.  Our behavioral health providers work closely with patients and their Primary Care Providers to help them meet their health care goals.  As a Child & Family Counselor, you would provide comprehensive outpatient counseling and social services.  This would include culturally appropriate intakes and assessments, individual counseling, case management, crisis stabilization, risk assessment, treatment planning, and possible facilitation of treatment &/or educational groups.  This position also performs the following duties:

  • provides referrals and coordination with medication providers, primary care physicians, school systems, law enforcement and other community agencies;
  • works with patients and their families to identify health goals and to achieve behavior change leading to a healthier lifestyle and the reduced likelihood of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs);
  • collaborates with patients and their families creating resiliency/recovery goals that identify mental health needs, physical health concerns, substance use issues and evaluate the level of risk for harm to self or others; and
  • supports daily activities such as educational pursuits and employment opportunities to achieve desired outcomes.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage & Family Therapy

  • Independent licensure as a Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage & Family Therapist or Psychologist in Washington State (or be eligible to obtain an independent license in WA State)

  • Mental Health Professional (MHP) and Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS) acknowledgment or qualifications to be acknowledged as an MHP or CMHS from the Department of Behavioral Health & Recovery (DBHR)

  • At least 2 years’ direct clinical experience working with children and families, preferably in a community health setting

  • Experience with Medicaid patients and state mental health system functions, requirements & changes

  • Demonstrated success in working with and relating to individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds & socio-economic levels, treating them with sensitivity & respect

  • Strong skills in support group organization & facilitation  

  • Ability to work some days onsite at local schools
