Job Summary:
INTERNS

A student wishing to complete an internship at Saint Dominic’s home must first contact the office of the EVP for Programs and Public Relations.
The EVP for Programs and Public Relations determines the most suitable area/department for the intern, based on his/her college requirements.
The EVP for Programs and Public Relations communicates the decision to the director of the designated area/department who accepts the responsibility of guiding the intern.
The EVP informs the relevant Recruiter in Human Resources to conduct the relevant mandated clearances.
Applications for the internship can be completed on-line by visiting our website: www.stdominicshome.org. The Recruiter schedules the intern for applicable internal paperwork and clearance authorizations such as: Staff Exclusion List (SEL), Employee Data Sheet, emergency contact, National Sex Offender Inquire Authorization, NYS OCFS Statewide Central Register Database Check, and Medicaid Fraud Check. A physical form is supplied if an Intern prefers to see their private doctor. A drug test procedure and form are supplied if applicable. Fingerprint information, scheduling and/or registering for fingerprinting is arranged if applicable. The same fingerprint steps used for new hires apply to Interns. Prior to completing the attached forms, an intern would first need to be cleared from the SEL. Also, an intern for a DD program would also need the paperwork for OPWDD to clear the MHL check (to check for substantiated child abuse in previous OPWDD provider agencies the intern might have worked/volunteered at) same as for new hires.
The Recruiter confirms the Intern’s employment history by mailing employment and personal reference requests. Telephone references are also acceptable. At least 2 employers and 1 personal or 3 personal and 1 employer reference must be obtained if the intern has only worked for one employer or the company has gone out of business and employment confirmation is not possible. At least 1 of the personal references must have known the applicant for 5 years.
The Recruiter informs the relevant Supervisor and the Intern as soon as the mandated clearances have been received. The Supervisor and the Intern coordinate the start date. The Supervisor schedules the intern for any training applicable to the department or to the intern’s field of study.
Upon completion of the internship, the relevant Director informs Human Resources so that separation procedures can be followed.
Note: All files are kept in Human Resources. Upon separation or completion of service, Human Resources must be notified in writing.
