Job Summary:
THIS POSITION HAS A $3,000 SIGN ON BONUS
The Special Education Teacher assumes primary responsibility for the day to day classroom behavioral management and academic program for his/her students.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Implement original Individualized Education Program (IEP) and prepare subsequent IEPs and Progress Reports with input from the classroom staff and clinical staff as needed for Requested Reviews and Annual Reviews. Develop instructional material and activities addressing monthly themes and implement then in a developmentally appropriate manner.


Education & Experience

BA/BS Degree, MA/MS Degree in one of the following Special Education/Preschool Certifications is required:

  • New York State Certification - Children with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2) Initial or Professional Certificate or
  • New York State Certification – Special Education Teacher Permanent Certificate or
  • New York State Certification – Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2) Initial or Professional Certificate.
  • Must have a BA/BS in Related Field – Candidates must be enrolled in a master's program in Early Childhood Special Education Program, seeking New York State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education Birth-Grade 2 and have 2 years teaching experience to be considered for a study plan. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred
  • Experience with children with autism, severely language impaired and behavior management issues.

MUST COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING:

  • Complete the mandatory 2 hours of training in child abuse and maltreatment identification, reporting, and prevention as well as the requirements of applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Complete 15 hours of training every 24 months, including the mandatory child abuse prevention and other subjects related to child health, safety, and early childhood development (Child Care Article 47 providers only)
