Job Summary:
The Teacher Aide assists the classroom teacher in carrying out the academic and behavioral objectives set forth in the child’s IEP by performing non-teaching support duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • If bilingual, works with Spanish dominant children creating an “alternative placement” for children who need a bilingual placement.
  • Collects and prepares instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Works with individual students on special instructional projects or assignments
  • Assists with crisis intervention and classroom supervision.
  • Assists teacher in the development of instructional behavioral objectives for the Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
  • Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the classroom.
  • Supervises students during lunch program and provides for the special dietary needs of some children.
  • Participates in In-Service training, faculty meeting and team meetings.
  • Writes in notebooks and/or translates for parents.
  • Calls parents especially when language is an issue.
  • Requests supplies for the classroom.
  • Participates in ordering instructional supplies.
  • Toilet trains children, changes diapers and cleans children as necessary.
  • Washes children’s clothes.
  • Assists children who need individual attention

Education & Experience
  • Teacher Aide – High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a Child Development Associate* (CDA) Certificate or 12 credits in Early Childhood Special Education or must obtain a Child Development Associate* or 12 credits in Early Childhood Special Education within 1 year from the date of hire.
  • *CDA must be awarded by Council for Professional Recognition
Physical Requirements:
Able to provide physical “hands-on” intervention when necessary
