Job Summary:

The Crisis Respite Worker focuses on short-term assistance and/or relief for children/youth with disabilities (developmental, physical and/or behavioral), and family/caregivers which can be provided in a planned mode or delivered in a crisis environment. Respite workers supervise the child/youth and engage the child in activities that support his/her and or caregiver/family’s constructive interests and abilities.
The Crisis Respite Worker will offer services with a level of expertise in understanding and implementing behavioral/developmental interventions required to support optimal functioning for children/youth. The worker will regularly communicate the details of the child/youth’s intervention plan so that there is a carryover of skill from the respite.
Employees are required to work a flexible schedule, including a minimum of one weekend day each week.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide short-term care and intervention strategy for children/youth and their families as a result of a child’s mental health/substance use crisis event, medical crisis or trauma that creates a risk for an escalation of symptoms without support and/or a loss of functioning.  Help child/youth to regain control and stability during acutely challenging emotional or medical crisis when the child/youth is unable to manage without intensive assistance and support


Education & Experience

High School Diploma required.  One (1) year of experience working with children in foster care, special education, Children’s Mental Health Program or related field preferred.  Must be able to competently demonstrate the functional skills required

While performing the duties for this job, the employee is required to communicate clearly and effectively.  The employee is required to stand; use mobility, handle, or feel and reach.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
