Basic Job Assignment:

POSITION PURPOSE: 

 

Under the supervision of the Program Director - BIH, provides on-site supervision to children ages 1 month to 12 years while parents attend prenatal, postpartum, and/or other BIH related group activities.  Staff member may work up to 20 hours per week as needed for program demands.

Employment Requirements:

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of appropriate child development theories and practices. Ability to create and maintain a safe learning environment for children. Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and program staff. Effective oral and written communication skills; sensitive to the needs of small children.

 

Education and/or Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is completion of six (6) units of early childhood education or child development (with a grade of “C” or better) from an accredited college/university; or 4 months of ROP Training in a Child Development Program; plus, at least one (1) year of experience working as childcare aide, teacher aide or higher position.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, and speak English and communicate effectively with children, parents, and program staff.

 

Reasoning Ability:

While performing the duties of this job, the Child Watch Worker is regularly required to use oral communication skills, observe, and interact with children of various ages, parents, and program staff.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES & CERTIFICATES:

Certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR must be met within 90 days of assignment.  Must complete fingerprinting and successfully pass background check. Negative TB test required upon hire and must be maintained every four (4) years. Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

  • Sets up child watch room/area prior to arrival of children.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining a safe environment for the children.
  • Ensures that children engage in age-appropriate activities/play (including watching of movies or videos);
  • Provides emotional and physical support as appropriate to children and encourages high self-esteem.
  • Escorts children who are toilet trained to restroom and may change diapers for other children as needed.
  • Supervises snack-time (food to be provided by BIH program or child’s parent).
  • Cleans up child watch room/area at the conclusion of child watch assignment.
