About This Position

The Mechanical Engineer role is a professional entry-level position. With supervision, the Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, optimizes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery for military and commercial portable fuel cell projects from concept to post-launch support. The Mechanical Engineer works within a multidisciplinary team to integrate fluid-mechanical and electrical subsystems with the latest fuel cell technology. 

Responsibilities

  • With support Designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
  • Develops specifications for new parts or prototypes.
  • Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products.
  • Uses CAD software and other design and modeling tools to develop and improve parts and products.
  • Using the stage gate development process, track and manage resource allocation across multiple, simultaneous projects.
  • Compile data and provide to Business Development team for periodic technical reports that keep our customers informed of project status and overall product development.
  • Evaluate testing data to verify compliance to applicable regulations and quality guidelines.
  • Utilize a standard root cause and corrective action process to permanently resolve product issues.
  • Successfully hand-off product to suppliers and manufacturing within timing and budget
  • Hands-on.  Expands projects and tasks by encouraging exploration of new ideas that may have a positive effect on the product.  Questions non-value added work and brings forward creative, fresh, and workable ideas
  • Communicate technical information with engineers, technicians, and management on a regular basis.
  • Works well and obtains results with others at various levels of skills/competence.  Seeks the opinions of others. 
  • Professional, represents themselves & the organization in a positive light through knowledge and conduct. Embodies the positive attributes of attitude, empowerment and growth
  • Guide & oversee manufacture of prototype systems and subsystems
  • Successfully transitions designs to larger scale manufacturing
  • Integrate manufacturability into design
  • Ability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Mixture of general office and light manufacturing environments.  Frequent contact with suppliers and/or customers.  Occasional overnight travel may be required.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree – BSME or related
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Ability to utilize MS Office 
  • Basic understanding of Lean, DFMA, Six Sigma, and FMEA.
  • With direction able to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment
  • Must balance multiple projects and be comfortable reacting to changing priorities
  • With support able to react to and implement changes suggested in projects to the product design.
  • Define what needs to be accomplished, consistently complete tasks.  Takes responsibility for resolving a problem, regardless of where it belongs
