Job Description
SUMMARY

This is a working Lead Facility Maintenance position that includes assigning work, instructing subordinate employees, and actually performing the complete facility maintenance duties as directed. Work includes a variety of maintenance and repair functions on shop equipment, office, transit centers, facility parking lots, park and ride lots, bus stops, and signs.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The individual in this position is expected to be fully competent in the skill area and perform independently and proficiently those assignments of an ongoing nature. Work is performed under the general direction of the Facility Management, who may review work and provide instructions to solve unusual problems. Requires the ability to plan the work assignments of subordinate employees, as well as write and code work orders. 

Responsible to assure thoroughness and quality to prevent potential liabilities for equipment related accidents and to see that work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following summarizes the essential or key responsibilities/attributes of the position the incumbent will be required to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

In addition to assigning work, instructing employees, monitoring work quality, and preparing work orders, the following is a list of typical duties, which may be performed by the individual in this position, or assigned to subordinate employees. 

Operate vehicles such as transit coaches and support vehicles as authorized and necessary to accomplish primary responsibilities.

Monitor security of assigned equipment and facilities. Report unusual conditions to supervisor or police department as conditions warrant.

Service shop equipment, bus washer, and steam cleaner. Maintain required fluid levels in maintenance equipment. Use cutting and welding equipment to repair broken or damaged shop equipment.

Performs all phases of maintenance of C-TRAN’s buildings and facilities, including miscellaneous carpentry work.

Perform grounds work, including lawn mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, and fertilizing at C TRAN's main facility, transit centers, and as required at bus stops and park and ride lots.

Maintain bus stop signs, which includes installing and replacing as necessary. 

Perform shelter rebuilding and/or replacement.

Perform concrete work, primarily shelter pads and retaining walls.

Perform advanced electrical wiring, repair, and replace cords, motors, and wall plugs.

Prepare surfaces for painting, tape, and paper. Perform all phases of painting from curb striping to walls and offices using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. 

Remove, replace, and/or repair plumbing fixtures and unclog plugged drains.

Fabricate needed items, such as brackets, bench seats, storage racking, and other specialty items.

Move office furniture when needed.

Perform a variety of tasks during Adverse Weather events such as operating snowplows, sanding, snow blowing, and de-icing equipment; chaining buses and assisting disabled equipment; removing snow from passenger areas; and operating water/chemical trucks, tractors, and loaders.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Assist with cleaning of bus shelters, park and ride lots, and bus stops as necessary.

Pick up and dispose of garbage at bus stops and shelters when necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of assigned duties and perform routine tasks without direct supervision.

Requires the ability to read, write clearly, and perform simple mathematic equations.

Requires the ability to read and understand blueprints.

Requires advanced knowledge and skills of basic mechanical systems, woodworking, plumbing, and carpentry.

Ability to operate a two (2) way radio.

Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle with standard or automatic transmission.

Knowledge of grounds maintenance and botany is desired.

Requires the ability and mechanical skills to maintain and use various gas and electrical shop and grounds equipment such as, but not limited to, power mower, edger, sweeper, washer, skill saw, and drills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to perform continuous physical effort including frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, twisting, manipulation, lifting and carrying of shop equipment and materials.

Must be able to hear warning horns when vehicles are in motion.

Responsibilities of position may result in exposure to environmental influences (beyond normal office environment) such as poor ventilation and illumination, loud noises, adverse weather conditions, congestion, and accidents or health hazards on the job which includes working with chemicals and operating equipment/machinery.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular, dependable attendance is required.

Must be able to work any day of the week and/or any shift including days, swing, and graveyard.

Must be able to obtain Washington State pesticide applicator license and certification for crane operation within a year of employment (subject to availability). 

Must possess a valid driver’s license from the state of residence and maintain a good driving record. A commercial driver’s license may be required within a specified time frame, determined by the supervisor, to maintain this position.

Must be able to comply with C-TRAN’s nonsmoking policy and function in a nonsmoking work environment.

Must pass an employment physical examination and drug test to be certified for the position and maintain a physical condition, which, either with or without accommoda¬tion, allows completion of all essential duties. 

This is a safety sensitive position subject to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.

If selected for the position, documentation that you are a United States citizen or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States will be required to establish your identity and work authorization in accordance with the employer’s obligation under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

This position is covered under the provisions of an agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, Local 1432, District 24. 

If selected for this position, employment will be conditional pending completion of a criminal background investigation.
