Job Description

CDL A or B with Passenger endorsement & Airbrake restriction removed is a requirement(If you currently do not have a CDL, please apply for the Bus Operator Trainee class)

We are currently accepting applications for people who can provide top-tier customer service to our customers and community. They will be relied on to ensure safe and efficient operation for Fixed Route while following routes, schedules, and all traffic regulations.

Expectations

  • If selected from this recruitment, you must be available to attend full-time training for a period of three (3) to four (4) weeks (could vary),
  • Candidates must be available to work any day of the week, holidays, early mornings, late evenings.
  • C-TRAN’s operating hours begin at 4:00 a.m. and continue until 1:15 a.m. 
  • Operators are expected to drive any shift and any route including nights, holidays, weekends, mornings, split shifts, and days off, if necessary.

Essential Functions

The following functions are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed in this classification, only a representative summary oft he primary duties and responsibilities.

Individuals selected for these positions must have the ability to:

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Comply with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) in operating a transit bus. This includes learning how to provide accessibility for disabled passengers to board and de-board and safely securing such passengers in a courteous and safe manner, announcing stops, without questions and assessing accessibility equipment during pre-trip inspections.
  • Be accurate and thorough in the completion of written accident, incident, and other reports.
  • Perform a pre-trip inspection of transit bus and pre-testing all necessary equipment, operating safety devices, and transit bus controls for use while in service.
  • Operate a radio to communicate with a dispatcher.
  • Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the public, to understand traffic signs and signals and to comprehend written instructions and standard operating procedures, notices, or memos.
  • Learn new routes and procedures and follow them reliably and consistently. Be able to read maps and follow navigation.
  • Know, understand, and follow traffic laws and ordinances and safety rules.
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.

·        Learns to be and is responsible for managing self in an appropriate manner as a representative of C-TRAN, working effectively in a diverse work environment, always using prudent judgement, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality services to all external and internal customers.

Qualifications

Driving records of applicants will be reviewed. Violations and patterns of violations will be assessed to determine suitability for the role.

Required Qualifications:
  

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must currently have a CDL Class A or Class B with Passenger Endorsement & Airbrake restriction removed (If you currently do not have a CDL, please apply for the Bus Operator Trainee class)
  • Must have been licensed for a minimum of five (5) years to be considered.

Additional License Requirements:  

You must have a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with Passenger endorsement and the Airbrake restriction removed. As long as you are licensed in the state in which you reside you are eligible and do not need to transfer your license! 

 Other Requirements:  

  • Applicants must be successful in meeting strict physical requirements, which will be determined by a physical exam, including a drug screen.
    • The Agency and the examining physician will look for conditions that are likely to interfere with the applicant's ability to perform the essential functions of the job and to safely operate and control a motor vehicle.
  • A minimum of three (3) professional references must be listed on the application, preferably including a supervisor(s) from current and/or most recent employer.
