🛠 WHAT YOU'LL DO

You’ll work side-by-side with Lead and Line Technicians as well as Line Supervisors to:

Duties: Apprentice III

·         Learn basics of overhead and URD construction and become familiar with RUS specifications and the National Electric Code. 

·         Assist in building line and facilities as directed.

·         Help load and unload poles, transformers, and other items.  Help check material in and out of the warehouse.

·         Responsible for material and tools being stored properly and in an orderly manner on his/her assigned vehicle.

·         Respond to after-hours trouble on a rotating basis and is dependably available for duty during inclement weather adversely affecting the Cooperative’s electrical system.

·         Understand considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.  Understand and utilize safety equipment.

·         Learn and comply with all safety policies, rules, and regulations.

·         Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.

 

Duties Apprentice II

All duties in level III and the following additional duties.

·          Perform line construction and maintenance tasks under the direction of a Journeyman rated Line Technician. 

·          Observe hazardous and unsafe conditions on the system and report them to the Line Supervisor.

·          Ensure that tools and assigned equipment are properly placed on the vehicles and that truck and equipment are properly maintained.

·          Operate and maintain hydraulic boom, hole digger and trenching/backhoe equipment.  Perform pole hauling, framing, setting and other groundwork.

·          Understand considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.  Understand and utilize safety equipment.

·          Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.

 

Duties Apprentice I

All duties level in levels III & II, and the following additional duties.

·          Perform line construction and maintenance of energized and de-energized overhead and URD distribution lines under supervision of a Journeyman rated Line Technician.

·          Patrol the line and check for defective materials, equipment or unsafe conditions; notify foreman or supervisor of problems found.

·          Perform the duties of a grounds man, equipment operator and lineman.  See that trucks, tools, and assigned equipment are properly used and kept in good working order.

·          Understand considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.  Understand and utilize safety equipment.

·          Learn and comply with all safety policies, rules, and regulations.

·          Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.


📈 LEVEL UP: APPRENTICE PATH

🔹 Apprentice III – New to the field?

  • HS Diploma or GED Required

  • CDL required

  • No experience necessary

  • Learn safety, equipment, and line work basics

🔹 Apprentice II – Gaining experience?

  • HS Diploma or GED Required

  • 3 years line work experience in overhead and underground construction and maintenance is desired.

  • Completed Apprentice III

  • CDL required

  • Operate heavy equipment, spot system hazards

🔹 Apprentice I – Ready for more responsibility?

  • HS Diploma or GED Required

  • (3) years prior experience in overhead and underground construction and maintenance is desired.

  • Completed Apprentice III & II

  • CDL required

  • Must have or be able to attain forklift certification. 

  • Must be able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

  • Physically able to lift 75 lbs. and work in all weather

  • Valid CDL

  • Forklift cert (or willing to get it)

  • Positive attitude and strong team spirit

  • Available for non-standard shifts, overtime, and emergency callouts
