Hospice Volunteer Coordinator

Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join the growing team at Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. In this role, the Volunteer Coordinator will oversee the implementation, coordination, and supervision of the organization’s volunteer program, ensuring volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, and supported in their service.

The ideal candidate will be dependable, compassionate, and able to work independently while collaborating with staff and volunteers. This position offers a flexible schedule, with an anticipated commitment of 10-20 hours per week. 

 


Salary Range:

  • $18.00-$21.00 per hour based on experience 

 

 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Recruits volunteers from the community.

  • Demonstrate strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate information to diverse audiences including staff, community partners, public and leadership

  • Presents on hospice volunteering and related topics to community organizations in an effort to recruit new volunteers

  • Helps plan and conduct volunteer trainings.

  • Maintains personnel files of all volunteers including applications, health records, completion certificates, training information, record of assignments, hours worked, HIPAA forms, and confidentiality agreements.

  • Assigns volunteers to patients/families.

  • Attends all hospice team meetings.

  • Communicates with patients and families to ensure the volunteer/patient match-up is working smoothly and effectively.

  • Keeps volunteers informed of changes, additional needs, and/or death of patient.

  • Provides hospice secretary the number of volunteer and bereavement contacts for patient/families each month for Board of Health reports.

  • Conducts volunteer meetings, including planning and researching topics for meetings.

  • Monitors and coordinates all volunteer committees in planning volunteer potluck, Service of Remembrance, fundraising activities, and various other functions throughout the year.

  • Reports issues with volunteers/bereavement to the Assistant Home Services Director

  • Works closely with volunteers doing active bereavement and be available as needed for support and assistance.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
