The Breakdown: 

The Designer is responsible for assisting all aspects of design for the multi-season apparel line and providing support to the design team. Help develop and implement creative and innovate designs to strengthen brand image and line growth.    

What You Get to Do: 

  • Design and develop trends, themes, concepts, colors, fabrics, fits, and trims as they apply to the Burton Brand.
  • Design seasonal developments from concept to completion of factory ready technical design packages. 
  • Actively participate in the conceptual development of lines.
  • Coordinate all design work according to set, specific, and rigid calendar deadlines and requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing market research into target user needs, new materials, technologies, processes and design trends.
  • Support product brief build-outs.
  • Develop visual display boards of line development.
  • Ensure tech packs are complete, accurate and handed off to product development team on time for prototypes and salesmen samples.
  • Complete pitch sheets and pattern layouts for yarn dyes and plaid layouts.
  • Develop, demonstrate, and maintain a strong knowledge of target market demands, customers, and brand objectives and design aesthetic.
  • Work with creative team to execute developments of seasonal packages for all styles and trims.
  • Work with merchandising/sales on colorways, prints, yarn dye patterns and all other design elements to deliver a well-balanced collection each season that supports line plans and company objectives.
  • Maintain relationships with sponsored athletes and select product testers and prepare discussions and presentations for rider roundtable meetings.
  • Maintain strong internal relationships with global sales and marketing staff to promote and ensure a thorough and consistent design process, and maintain open channels of communication.
  • Be prepared to clearly and effectively present work to organization and teams in a sales meeting environment.
  • Moderate domestic and international travel required. 

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • A Bachelor's degree in fashion design or another appropriate field.
  • 3-5 years apparel design/development expertise.
  • Experience in Outdoor/Performance Apparel.
  • Knowledge of lifestyle markets.
  • Technical experience in materials, fabrications, garment construction, colors, and design processes.
  • Understanding of sourcing and costing processes.
  • Experience in conceptual garment illustration and detailed CAD illustration.
  • Interest in retail business environment and measures.
  • Strong oral, written, and general language skills.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop experienced in Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to sit, stand and work on a computer for long periods of time, work in a sometimes noisy environment, and see color.
