Overview:

The TEAM Masters-level Mental Health Counselor performs crisis intervention, risk assessment and referral services for individuals in the community that are experiencing a mental health crisis. The Counselor will be part of a 2-person team which includes Tallahassee Police Department law enforcement officer who will ride together and respond to mental health crisis calls that come through the Central Dispatch Agency (9-1-1). The Counselor will strive to avert psychiatric hospitalization though crisis intervention, but if needed, the officer may initiate the Baker Act or Marchman Act for involuntary examination when appropriate.  The Counselor will make referrals, complete follow-ups for the TEAM clinical staff, maintain the Clinical Staff Follow-Up Spreadsheet, submit daily shift counselor stats to the TPD officer, submit daily shift reports to the Crisis Services team Leader, and help to connect individuals with community resources and treatment. The Counselor will conduct risk assessments and document in Apalachee Center’s electronic medical record.

Shift: 1:00pm-10:00pm, days of the week will vary

Rate of Pay: $26.00-$28.00/hr.

Education/Experience: 

 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university or college with a major in the field of counseling, social work, psychology, or a related human services field.
  • Two years of related professional experience working with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness on an inpatient or outpatient basis, including crisis intervention.

Licensure or Certification:

 

  • Valid driver's license with no more than 6 points over 3 years
