Overview:

As a Music Therapist, your main responsibility will be planning and implementing group sessions within our inpatient hospital and residential facilities. The therapist’s job is to utilize client-preferred music to assist Apalachee’s clients in achieving their various therapeutic goals. The therapist will have full autonomy on therapeutic interventions and techniques used to work towards completing clients’ goals and objectives. The therapist may work with supervisors to establish a viable schedule.




Rate of Pay: 

Bachelor's level:  $18.00-$20.00 per hour
Master's level:  $22.00-24.00 per hour

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Education and Experience:

Qualifications

Essential Competencies

  • Ability to sing and play guitar simultaneously in a variety of styles; Experience in multiple types of instruments preferred
  • Ability to transpose music to meet therapist’s and/or clients’ capabilities
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, drugs, and alcohol, including their effects on clients’ behavior and functional capacity.
  • Ability to effectively redirect clients and set clear limits on inappropriate behavior
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes in clients’ behaviors or emotional state
  • An enthusiastic approach to therapy and working in a mental health setting
  • Prior professional experience in the mental health field preferred

Education

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree in Music Therapy preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work professional experience in music therapy preferred.  

Certifications (Required)

  • Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC)
Must have valid Driver's License with no more than 6 points over 3 years.
