IMPORTANT NOTES:

This job will require travel throughout Western Canada for extended periods.
This job will require working in all types of weather conditions.
Repetitive bending, and standing for long period of time, lifting and carrying up to 50lbs unassisted, repetitive swinging motions, walking on uneven surfaces (approx. 3 miles/day)
Working with hazardous materials such as creosote, lubricants, oil, gasoline, diesel and regular exposure to dusty conditions
Continuous, regular exposure to loud noise

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Foreman, the Trackman maintains and repairs railway tracks. Duties can include replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, and fences and adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track as well as responding to emergencies and track outages.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge acquired during minimum of on 6 months working as a railway Labourer/Trackman
  • Fluent in reading, writing and understanding the English language
  • Ability to operate required tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Good client service and public interaction skills
  • Be respectful and courteous to others, pose cultural awareness of others and demonstrate good work ethic

  • REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have 6 months experience working in the railway industry as a labourer
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Be a strong communicator – your safety is dependent on it!
  • Hold a full, valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Be willing to purchase CBA-approved work boots with a Metatarsal Guard (we do not recommend purchasing these until you have started working with us)
  • Be willing to undergo pre-employment testing including a criminal record check, drug, alcohol, and fitness fit-for-duty testing, as a condition of employment
  • Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Be physically able to do repetitive bending, standing for long periods of time, carry up to 50lbs unassisted, repetitive swinging motions, walking on uneven surfaces (approx. 3 miles/day)
