Field Safety Advisor- BC

The Field Safety Advisors primary function is coordinating, preparing and supporting all safety activities in the field operations. This position reports directly to the HSE Lead.This is a full time HSE field position assigned to various railway and construction settings, requiring travel and being away from home.

Field level HSE advisors act as a front-line resource to help execute the organization's health, safety and environmental management system intended to protect the organization's employees, the environment, and property against harm or damage. 

They are responsible for providing sound advice and consultation to all personnel.  They are responsible for  providing guidance in compliance with the core program that drives corporate strategy for strong safety performance and continuous improvement in promotion of a positive safety culture. 

The position is accountable for the coordination and preparation of all HSE documentation that is commonly used by our business units as well as assistance with the creation of strategic initiatives to help with client interface.


  • Provide advice and consultation to all personnel for programs that drives corporate strategy for strong safety performance and continuous improvement
  • Proactively identify plans to reduce workplace hazards and to reduce risk to the organization
  • Investigative processes; support to management for the collection and tracking of all safety related metrics
  • Ensure that Safety Meetings, Job Briefings, JHAs, FLRAs, and Inspections are conducted as per policy and documented appropriately
  • Assist with or deliver HSE Orientation modules as required
  • Facilitate other required corporate Safety training as directed
  • Lead, and conduct incident investigations
  • Coordination and preparation of all HSE documentation that is commonly used by the business units
  • Actively participate in HSE committees and mentor HSE committee members as needed
  • Assist with creation of strategic initiatives to help with client interface
  • Design and create a site or project specific safety plans as required Help with identifying training for employees for incident prevention to maintain safety awareness
  • Analyze safety conditions and recommend changes to continuously improve operational safety performance
  • Assist with the maintenance of records as necessary to comply with relevant OH&S legislation and regulations
  • Prepare and submit reports to document compliance and incidents
  • Assist with safety audits and inspections of operational activities
  • Review existing safety systems and make recommendation for improvement or changes as required
  • Provide advice on safety systems, trends, response actions, investigation, and interpretation of health and safety regulations
  • Promote various programs and initiatives to build and sustain a safety culture that becomes a “way of life” for employees and contractors
  • Take an active role in ensuring that all employees understand and comply with company policies and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment

  • Sense of urgency and delivery.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years working in railway industry
  • General understanding of HSE Management Systems and how they apply
  • A solid understanding of railway operations and engineering rules and how they apply in a field environment
  • A diploma/certificate in Health & Safety/Environment, or equivalent discipline is considered an asset
  • General Knowledge in the operation of Heavy Equipment is considered an asset
