Our work is located throughout western Canada. Must be willing to travel for weeks/months at a time. 

MAIN PURPOSE:

Ensuring safety is a priority, this Tamper Operator will be responsible for operating tamper and or other equipment in an efficient, safe and appropriate manner. They will also be responsible for loading/unloading and securement of equipment and material; as well as, clean and maintain equipment and physical labour when required. This individual will at times work in high noise levels, fast paced and labour intensive roles, all weather conditions, standing/sitting varies on a daily basis and can be given multiple responsibilities at any given time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Abide by safety procedures, conducting pre-start checks on machinery & safe operations
  • General track machine maintenance 
  • Ensuring safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public and the assets of the company and following policies and procedures set out by the company
  • Daily walk around inspection if machine, general housekeeping of machine and minor repairs to machine when necessary to ensure safe operation 
  • Daily administration of log books, job briefings etc. mandated by law ensuring compliance with governed regulations of transportation such as DOT logs when applicable
  • Compliance to track rules and instructions according to CROR 
  • Assist with manual labour when necessary
  • Communicate effectively over radio following CTC standards
  • Meet productivity level requirements set out by supervisors/foremen 
  • Other duties as assigned 

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Ability to read instructions, follow technical specifications and grade plans
  • Ability to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting, standing, bending, shovelling, etc 
  • Sound understanding of safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Perform duties in inclement weather, with possible exposure to severe weather conditions 
  • Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of various related equipment and tools 
  • Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations 
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage

  • JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma  is considered an asset
  • Tamper Operating experience is mandatory
  • Trouble Shooting Jupiter II System is considered an asset
  • Previous machine operator experience required
  • Experience in track construction & maintenance
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • CROR required (will train)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude required
  • Clear criminal record preferred
  • Clean drivers abstract preferred
  • First Aid, Fall Arrest, GEI, Forklift Loader, Specific Machine Operator Certification will be as as-set, will train.
