  •  This job is working on an industrial site for a high-profile client located in the Redwater area and is considered Local to the Edmonton area. 
  • Permanent, Full Time, Monday to Friday - 8hr Days (Overtime as Required) this role has the potential to transition to a Monday to Thursday 10hr days in the spring and Summer months.

  • Candidates applying for this position must have their own transportation as job sites are throughout the region.
  • Preference will be shown to candidates that reside in the region.
  • Due the physically demanding nature of the position, candidates will be required to undergo fit-ness testing as a condition of employment.


    Ensuring safety is a priority, the Trackman will work with the Foreman and Operator in a team environment to build and maintain railway tracks within an industrial site environment. The Trackman is responsible for, but not limited to manually grading ballasts, pulling out spikes and hammering spikes in to rail ties, loading and unloading various heavy material on and off vehicles. Trackman operate various hand-held tools small equipment and handle hazardous materials while frequently performing physical work in all weather conditions. The Trackman like any employee must ensure Safety, Quality, and Customer Satisfaction in everything they do. 

  •  • Ensuring safety is a priority to self, fellow workers, the general public and the assets of the company and following policies and procedures set out by the company
  • General Labour, pulling track spikes, hammering spike, applying rail anchors ect.
  • Shoveling rocks and dirt for manual grading of surfaces and clearing ballasts
  • Various loading and unloading of heavy materials such as tools and equipment (spikes, tie plates, joint bars etc.) to and from various vehicles and machine
  • Prepare, use and maintain various common and specialized hand tools for assigned work
  • Correct deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge
  • Clearing railway crossings of brush and tall grass using hand held tools and equipment
  • Removal of tie plates from the rail
  • Snow removal from, crossings, and right aways’ using shovels, back pack blowers, brooms etc.
  • Occasional driving of company vehicle
  • Other duties as assigned


    The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Basic understanding of survey grades and construction methods
  • Ability to read instructions, follow technical specifications and grade plans
  • Ability to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting, stand-ing, bending, shovelling, etc. 
  • General understanding of how to operate small equipment such as, but not limited to rail saws, drills, grinders, puller, air compressor, bolter, and back pack blower
  • General understanding how to operate hand tools such as, but not limited to hammers, claw bars, drift pin, scythes, brooms, shovel, pick, and track jacks
  • Sound understanding of safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Perform duties in inclement weather, with possible exposure to severe weather conditions
  • Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of various related equipment and tools
  • Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong stress management and time management skills
  • Repetitive bending, and standing for long period of time, lifting and carrying up to 50lbs unassisted, repetitive swinging motions, walking on uneven surfaces (aprox 3 miles/day)
  • Exposed to outdoors regularly in all weather conditions (summer heat, rain, winter cold, etc.)
  • Working with hazardous materials such as creosote, lubricants, oil, gasoline, diesel and regular exposure to dusty conditions
  • Continuous, regular exposure to loud noise

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Min. 2 year experience in the Railway industry
  • A Valid Class 5 drivers License & Clean Driver’s Abstract 
  • Valid CROR, CSTS, First Aid, H2S Alive, WHMIS, Confided Space, Local Wildlife Awareness, E-Rail Safe, and Ground Disturbance level 2 courses, TIGS, Track Inspection Certification level 2, are considered an asset (will train if necessary)
